Beginning at Ilfracombe, the photographs in this book take us eastwards along the Bristol Channel as far as Sharpness and Gloucester before heading westwards along the Welsh coast as far as Swansea. All 105 photographs are in colour and they offer a feast of nostalgia to anyone interested in the maritime and industrial history of the area. They provide vivid memories of the glory years before the widespread development of containerisation. The inclusion of the ports of Watchet, Portishead and Gloucester reminds us that these used to be busy commercial harbours. Each photograph is accompanied by a fully detailed caption giving information about the ship and the setting. This book is a natural sequel to the author's successful Bristol Channel Shipping Memories, published in 2006.
