| | This book fills a long standing need for an informative book describing the buses and trams which have run in Paris since 1662 - yes the 17th century. However buses as we might recognise them started in 1828, the year before George Shillibeer started his service in London. Berlin was not to have a bus service until 1847. So, Paris was the pioneer. Brian Patton follows the development of the horse bus services through the 19th century and describes the development of the motor bus during the 20th. As we approach the second decade of the 21st century, Brian illustrates the latest trends in low floor and carbon friendly bus development. Trams and the Metro both form part of the whole Paris transport network and Brian gives his readers a taste of the trams, which have been more deeply studied elsewhere. He does not attempt to cover the Metro which, also well documented elsewhere, is outside the scope of the volume dealing with surface modes. The modern trams on Lines T1 to T4 are described and illustrated and put into the context of present day Paris transport. Tickets have not been forgotten and together with tourist coaches and the RATP collection of preserved buses form the latter part of the book. This book is A4 portrait in layout with 80 pages between soft covers. It is lavishly illustrated with a mix of old postcards, black and white and colour photographs. Contents:
