| John Ramsbottom lived from 1814 to 1897 and built up an international reputation for Crewe Works, and himself, in his own lifetime, yet this is the first biography of him to be published. Based on many years of research, this well-illustrated book is much more than a catalogue of machinery, giving details of Ramsbottom the man and his life, as well as his inventions, his years with the London and North Western Railway at Longsight and Crewe, and his later years helping to establish and develop the new works at Horwich for the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway.
