| | The last years of bus oeprations by Ireland's national transport company Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ) were fascinating times to be a bus enthusiast in Ireland. With an almost bankrupt country struggling to keep its population on the move, the 1970's and 80's saw minimal investment in transport infrastructue, and a 'make-do and mend' attitude pervaded. Written by Ed O'Neill, an enthusiast of thirty years standing who works in the transport business, the book shows photographs that capture the ingenuity and innovation of CIÉ management and staff in keeping an ageing fleet on the road. Drawing on his amazing personal collection of over 6000 images, the author features on-street ande garage photographs of most types of the single and double deckers that were in service in Ireland from the mid 1970s up until the establishment of seperate companies to run Dublin's provinical bus services in 1987. Streetscapes that have changed fundamentally will remind the reader of a gentler, less frenetic time. Rare photographs include the very short-lived mid buff livery on a Leyland PD3 and a Bombardier KD type demonstrator in cream and brown colours. Road transport enthusiasts around the country will be eage to delive into the rich history of this much-loved operator.
