| | This is not just a railway history. Besides being the story of the Nitrate Railways Company, its predecessors and successors, it also notes the three narrow gauge railways built to carry nitrate in an area which the Nitrate Railways Company imagined was theirs by right. Information is given on operating methods out of the sea ports of Iquique, Pisagua, Junin, Caleta Buena and Patillos, all of which had steep climbs to the nitrate fields. Lines are described with relevant dates and subsequent history. Rolling stock is covered in a small way but locomotives are listed in detail and new lists are published which have taken many years to assemble – again previous lists all contain errors and doubts.
