It was not until 1 May 1939 that Corporation-owned trolleybuses first ran and Brighton, Hove & District's trolleybuses were not delivered until after the start of World War 2. A network of routes was served by some 52 Corporation and 12 BH&D vehicles. The final extension opened in 1951 taking the total route mileage to around 14.5 miles. By the mid-1950s, competition, particularly from Southdown, led to the decision to convert to motor bus operation. Trolleybuses last ran on 30 June 1961, although some Brighton vehicles found new homes with operators in Bournemouth, Maidstone and Bradford. This latest title, from two of our most prolific and successful road transport authors, offers a pictorial tribute to the system, its history, operations and vehicles. It provides a nostalgic reminder of a form of transport that once played a crucial role in the provision of public transport in and around Brighton. It will be sought by local historians, transport enthusiasts and all those have known Brighton over the past 50 years. Contents:
