| Ticket to Ride.. Through the Algarve by Rail part 2 continues the joumey along the Algarve coast with the driver of a “Class 50”. The route to the east of Tunes is busier than that to the west. It has more of a main line feel, at least it does as far as Faro the Algarvian capital. This is a busy and picturesque single track line and passes in through holiday country. The resort towns of Albufeira and Quarteira are to the south as are some of Europe's great golf courses. As Faro is approached Jonathan Hewat explains the plans for new lines in the area that would make CP more useful to the holiday industry. Then its along the Atlantic coast east of Faro through Olhão and onto the charming little town of Tavira. We have time for a look at this sleepy backwater before continuing our journey to the Spanish border at Vila Real de St Antonio. Filmed in bright February sunshine, this might be one of the last times you can travel on this line with a Portuguese '50'! The electrics are coming!
