|There is hardly a family in and around Merseyside that wasn't involved with shipping in one way or another. Now, after searching the world for over ten years to find rare archive film, producer Des Cox has magically managed to recreate those halcyon days finm the turn of the century to the 1960's when the river Mersey and it's ports were the stage for one of the world's most exciting and vibrant maritime shows. There are so many great ships to be seen in this video: Cunarder's - White Star - Canadian Pacific Harrisons - Blue Funnel - PSNC - Elder Dempster - Lamport & Holt - Palm Line, Bibby Line and Anchor Lines to mention but a few. However, nothing can quite prepare you for the unique and moving picture/sound experience of the final departure of the ill-fated 'Lusitania's' sailing from New York in 1915, sounding her mighty sirens for what was to be the very last time- This has never been made available to the public before and is a truly remarkable and awesome experience. The house-flags on the spine of this video represent just a few of the companies whose ships we see in this truly magnificent production. They are Lamport & Holt, Lyle Shipping, White Star, Bibby Line and by contrast the Atlantic Container Line.|
