| | The phrase 'design life' has come to mean how long we can expect to use something before it is time to replace it. What 'design life' did the Directors of the Fleetwood Tramroad Company plan for their line? It is interesting to speculate whether they were looking at the short, medium or long-term; so far as the original company was concerned, the Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramway was a medium-term investment, as the owners passed the business to Blackpool council within 22 years. The Council owned and operated it for a further 66 years until the operation passed to Blackpool Transport Services Limited in 1986. The council has kept the job of maintaining and replacing the track and electrical equipment, with Blackpool Transport running the service. Steve Palmer's book traces the history of the Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramway from Mr Cameron's original line right up to the present day. The pages tell the story of one of the best-known light rail lines in the world. Contents:
