| | With the majority of its passengers travelling during the weekday rush hours, the Underground has long recognised the benefits of promoting leisure travel on its lines. This was particularly the case before the era of mass car ownership, when top poster artists were commissioned to encourage people to travel by Underground to the London stores, open spaces, the River, evening entertainment and sporting and ceremonial events. This book celebrates the work of these artists and shows how the Underground sought to get its message across to Londoners to make their pleasure trips by Underground. The author is curator of posters and publicity materials at the London Transport Museum. Contents:
