Part three of the Register follows the format of part two by showing a datum line for January and August (Winter and Summer position) for each locomotive with any alterations made in between entered in bold type with the month and year. The listing of locomotives is broadly numerical although where a class is broken into subdivisions (the A2 Pacifics for example) each part immediately follows the main entry. Similarly where a class has been significantly rebuilt. such as the A3 class. two entries are shown. BR Standard locomotives, main line diesel and electric engines, diesel shunters and LMS designs allocated to ex-LNER sheds have been included towards the rear of the book.
