| | The Scottish Central Railway celebrates its 150th anniversary during 1998 and this is timely moment to publish a thorough history of this fascinating railway. Here is the story of this originally fiercely independent company before absorption into the Caledonian Railway in 1865. The railway had its works at Perth and there is a survey of the the SCR's locomotives and rolling stock. The story of the magnificent station at Perth is a complicated one in which the SCR was a major player and it is told here. The line which runs via Dunblane, and Gleneagles was to form a part of the West Coast route to Aberdeen which witnessed the 'Railway Races to the North' and then in the 1960s the celebrated 3 hour expresses from Glasgow to Aberdeen using LNER 'A4' Pacifics.
