| On 2nd January 1982 the last of the legendary Deltic locomotives backed away from platform 2 at King's Cross and faded into history. Since that day the new owners of that same locomotive, Royal Scots Grey dreamed of returning her to the East Coast Main Line. This programme tells the story of the Deltic 9000 Fund's realisation of the dream from the purchase of D9000 in January 1983 and subsequently sister loco Gordon Highlander, through the era of British Rail open days and occasional preserved railway galas and into works in August 1996 for full overhaul to main line standards - this is the story of how D9000 returned to King's Cross on the Deltic Reunion exactly 15 years after being 'pensioned off'. This programme brings you the full inside story of RSG's rebirth: The £100,000 overhaul in Glasgow : The Proving and Certification runs: The passenger debut 'Deltic Deliverance' railtour in November 1996 and its fiery conclusion at Berwick: The Christmas 'Phoenix from the Ashes' dash to King's Cross, and the triumphal return to passenger running on January 2nd's 'Deltic Reunion'. The 'Deltic Reunion' tour to Hull, Leeds and York was a landmark in RSG's eventful life. It not only returned the locomotive to many of its former stamping grounds, but also provided the opportunity for perhaps the first meeting between the prototype and first production Deltic at the National Railway Museum. The whole tour took place in sub-zero temperatures and gave thousands their first glimpse for 15 years of a Deltic where it truly belongs - on the main line. All the classic locations are here, with the bonus of a stunning helicopter sequence as RSG negotiates the snowy landscape of Yorkshire. But for D9000, this was only the beginning of the Second Deltic Age . . . Includes:
- The Overhaul at Springburn
- The Proving & Certification Runs
- The Spectacular Fire at Berwick on the ‘Maiden Voyage’
- The Christmas ‘Phoenix from the Ashes’ dash to Kings Cross, and
- The Triumphal Return to Passenger Runnning on the East Coast Main Line on 2nd January 1997
