Welcome to the December 2008 Edition of the
Newsletter from Transport Diversions
Title News:
The beginning of
the month newsletter is where we recap all the information and changes for the
last month, so a lengthier list than the mid-month newsletters.
New titles
over the last month total seventy-three, plus there are further titles that are
either new
to us or are expected
soon.
VAT News:
The reduction in
VAT announced this week and implemented this weekend meant a hectic few days as
we checked the situation with our suppliers. Just in case anyone doesn't know,
books are not subject to VAT so there is no alteration in book prices.
For items that are
VAT-rated, such as Videos (VHS & DVD), the majority of suppliers tell us
they have decided to stick with their current Recommended Retail Prices (RRPs).
The reasons given were one or more of:
- We have catalogues and brochures printed, plus advertising placed, all with current
prices. and it would cost so much to change we'd probably have to put the price
back up to pay for that.
- We've been absorbing increased cost for the past two years so this helps
offset those costs.
- We intended to put up prices in the New Year so now we can stay the same.
- It's a huge amount of work to implement a change that will have to be undone
in twelve months time.
We have some
sympathy with the amounts of admin. work involved for a reduction of about 2p
in the £1. With a catalogue of over 4000 items currently available, even working
out which ones might need changing and then revising them is not a task for the
faint-hearted!
Having said all
that, two video suppliers have decided to reduce their prices. They are Just Planes, and Video 125, plus, as we have
significant stocks of the Settle & Carlisle Calendar,
we have reduced its price accordingly.
Christmas
and New Year Holiday> Season:
We are already in
the throngs of Customers making early purchases of gifts for friends and
relatives and, judging by previous years, this will build to a peak during late
November. Please remember the earlier you order, the less likely you are to get
impacted by any seasonal delays.
For all items that
show as being "In Stock", using the Royal Mail's last posting dates we suggest
the latest dates for orders required before the Christmas holidays should be:

continue to ship orders right up to the last moment, but if gifts are required
(even if you are only treating yourself!) please try and order in plenty of
time. We'll do our best not to disappoint.
