So the Budget is done and the anticipated VAT increase is far enough away for us to prepare – at least books are still zero-rated! Avid followers of our newsletter may notice that some anticipated titles have not only not arrived, but are also no longer in our 'expected in two months' category – such are the vagaries of some publishers.

Books and VAT (they wouldn't dare would they?):
With around three weeks to the emergency budget (and lots of sound bites softening us up by telling us how bad things are!) there is always the fear that any VAT changes would, for the first time, be levied on books. Now we aren't saying this will happen, but if you have got a book purchase in mind, for an item we currently have in stock, it might be better to order it sooner rather than later…
With regard to items already carrying VAT (e.g. DVD Videos), any increase in rate will have to be applied as soon as announced, even for existing stocks.
